Donate to support local school libraries

You can donate towards purchasing books for the libraries at some of Portobello’s local schools here.

We think that every child should have access to a wide variety of books and hope to play a part in fostering a lifelong love of reading in kids. We have an excellent relationship with our local schools and have been helping them restock their library, with the generous support of parents and donors. We work closely with the schools to find out which books would be most valuable for them, and our team also curates lists of new and exciting titles to keep the libraries as up to date as possible!

You can choose the school you’d like to help buy books for, or you can also make a general donation to all of the schools that we work with, which will be shared equally between them.

100% of your donation is used to purchase books for each school.

Many thanks for any support you can offer!

Brunstane Primary School

Brunstane Primary School

106 Magdalene Dr, Edinburgh EH15 3BE

Brunstane Primary School is a local primary school in the Magdalene area. At Brunstane Primary School we aim to create a safe, welcoming, inclusive and aspirational ethos for all our learners.

We treat all children as individuals and work together as a school community to support all children to reach their full personal potential. We serve a catchment with several areas classified as experiencing high disadvantage based on the Scottish Index of Multiple Depravation. This means, that many of our pupils do not have books at home and our school library is a key way of mitigating this disadvantage. We know how important it is for children to have access to high quality books to support their learning and any donations massively help us in this mission. We are delighted to be partnered with The Portobello Bookshop and hugely appreciate their support.

-Enable learners to achieve their full potential following an ambitious, innovative, creative and inspirational curriculum.

-Develop independent learners to be confident, resilient, active, creative and well prepared for their future lives.

-Encourage all children to be responsible local and global citizens.

-Value and involve all members of the school family, guided by an ethos of collaboration, communication, kindness and respect.

The library in Towerbank is a much-loved part of the school and supported by parent/carer volunteers. Donations are greatly appreciated and crucial in helping to keep the library well-stocked with high quality engaging books for our pupils.

With support in developing the library and organising class talks with authors, Towerbank greatly values working in partnership with The Portobello Bookshop and we are looking forward to the months ahead!
