New Books in January 2025

Top picks15th January 2025

A very happy new year to you all from the staff at The Portobello Bookshop!

If you're familiar with our lists, you'll notice we have changed the format for 2025. Instead of separate lists, we're going to gather up all the books we're excited for into a single list per month. So we will be collating new hardback fiction and non-fiction, paperback, children's, young adult, and poetry publications all together.

We're delighted to be hosting an event with Nicola Dinan to discuss Disappoint Me, since Bellies was a firm staff favourite. Speaking of favourites, January also sees the arrival of The Extinction of Irena Rey in paperback, and Euan is a massive fan of Jennifer Croft's novel. Two of Molly's favourites, Hisham Matar's My Friends and Vivian Gornick's The Odd Woman and the City, are now both in the shop. We're also so pleased to include the first book in Fitzcarraldo's new series of poetry editions: Strange Beach by Oluwaseun Olayiwola.
