Book Group: Islands of Abandonment by Cal Flyn at The Portobello Bookshop

For this special one-off book group event, we will be reading and discussing Islands of Abandonment by Cal Flyn. This is a book about abandoned places, places left behind when the rest of the world has moved on. From Detroit to Chernobyl, to abandoned Scottish islands, this book brings together stories of desolate and deteriorating spaces that actually offer great insight into what environmental recovery might look like. Rich in detail and lyrically written, Islands of Abandonment is a perfect book group book, with plenty to discuss and ask Cal about during the event.

Cal will be joining us for a reading and Q&A after the discussion, which will be taking place online over Zoom to comply with the latest government restrictions. Everyone who purchases a ticket will have access to the Zoom discussion with Cal Flyn as well as a signed bookplate edition of Islands of Abandonment. Limited places are available for this exclusive book group event.

Please note this is a special event book group, and that our regular (and free) book group, which began shortly before lockdown, will resume in future.

Please note: Tickets for our events are non-refundable. Professional photography and videography may take place during this event. Thank you for your understanding.
