Dr. Won-Kee Hong is a professor of architectural engineering at Kyung Hee University, South Korea. He received his master's and PhD degrees from UCLA, and has worked for Englekirk and Hart, Inc. (USA), Nihhon Sekkei (Japan), and the Samsung Engineering and Construction Company (Korea). Dr. Hong has more than 30 years of professional experience in structural and construction engineering. He has been both an inventor and researcher in the field of modularized hybrid composite structures. He is the author of more than 40 technical papers on modularized hybrid composite structures and over 100 patents both in Korea (over 100) and the USA (2 registered and 1 pending). He has been working with numerous industrial partners and implemented his construction methods in numerous construction companies. Recently, Dr. Hong has developed new connections that can be used with various types of frames including hybrid steel-concrete precast composite frames, precast frames, and steel frames. These connections could contribute to the modular construction of heavy plant structures and buildings as well. As a registered engineer and university faculty member, he has been an invited speaker at international conferences, and a reviewer for proposals, books and papers in structural and constructional engineering fields.
