Winston Smith Author

Winston Smith is a pen name taken from Orwell's 1984. In that book, Smith was the lone voice raised against the groupthink we see and hear all the time. I did feel, as I wrote this, that I was a lone voice crying in the wilderness. My hope is that people of every shade of opinion and none, will read this book, not necessarily to be persuaded to my view, though that would be good, but at least to have their eyes opened to views and facts that will be new to them and may shock and surprise them. To those whose views this book will challenge I say do not call for my head on a platter. Just glory in free speech even if you don't agree with me. To those who would be hostile, a pen name will save me from the few who would abuse me and them from a court case. After reading my book, everyone has a right to say, `I don't agree with that', but I hope no-one will say `I still think the Queen does a good job' when that is just an opinion; they must define what good is and then say how that good job is to be achieved. I wish them good luck on that task.
