William Fricker has worked in the book-trade all his adult life. He first worked for William Collins (now Harper Collins) in London where he became a Creative Director in their paperback division, Fontana. Responsible for the copywriting and advertising campaigns for authors as diverse as Agatha Christie, Alistair Maclean, Morris West, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Michael Bond. Authors who write the blockbusters of the 1970s. Indeed, then and today these authors have again been in demand via TV and Film tie-ins. A chance meeting with the travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor set William on a long trek of 6,000 km across Europe (France-The Alps-Italy, to Greece) along the old mule tracks, footpaths and pilgrim's routes. He returned on a bicycle via North Africa, Spain and France. For the past 30-years he has built up Goldeneye compiling much of the research, editorial and photography on more then 200 UK travel guides. More recently, he has been developing his Guidebooks to Cornwall, Devon, The Cotswolds and The Lake District.
