World-renowned glass artist Jeff Zimmerman (b. 1968) took his first glass-blowing class in 1988 and decided to pursue his BFA at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Tennessee to learn classical glassblowing. He later worked and traveled throughout Europe to study with esteemed artists and studios, including CIRVA in France, and Robert Wilson, Gaetano Pesce, and Robert Morris.
Zimmerman debuted his first solo installation in 1999 at the Robert Lehman Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, and since then established a successful solo practice. Zimmerman regularly collaborates with architects and interior designers to make custom commissions of illuminated sculptures within his rich lexicon of natural forms and patterns.
Zimmerman has exhibited at galleries and institutions internationally, including Sean Kelly Gallery, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and Perrotin in Paris. His work is in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass and the Boghossian Foundation in Belgium and private collections worldwide. Zimmerman lives and works between Brooklyn, New York, and Portland, Washington.
