Tom Lathan Author

Tom Lathan is an author and book critic living in Kent. His writing about conservation, nature, death and grief have appeared in publications including the Guardian, the Spectator, the Financial Times and the Times Literary Supplement. He is also part of the conservation initiative to reintroduce wild bison to the UK for the first time in 6,000 years, assisting Kent Wildlife Trust in assessing the ecological impact of the bison since their release in July 2022. Lathan loves the writing of Rachel Carson, Nan Shephard and Robert McFarlane and hopes that his book will help conjure a similar sense of wonder they awoke in him about the species that have quietly slipped away over the last couple of decades as well as those we still have a chance to save. Lost Wonders is Lathan’s first book, and was the recipient of a Society of Authors award in 2019.
