Susie Lan Cassel is Professor of Literature and Writing Studies at California State University, San Marcos. She has an A.M. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California. She is an award-winning teacher, and her first book, The Chinese in America: A History from Gold Mountain to the New Millennium," was nominated for the Association of Asian-American Studies Book Award in History. She has published articles in the "Journal of Asian-American Studies (JAAS)," "Frontiers: A Journal of Women's Studies," "Reflections: On Community-based Writing Instruction," and the "MLA's Profession." Her current project, "The Ah Quin Diaries," is being supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, and the National Historical Publications and Records Commission." Kathleen Muller Moore has an MA and Ph.D. from the University of California. She has been teaching composition for over ten years, and is currently an Associate Director in the University Writing Program at the University of California, Riverside. She is also a co-author of Write It: A Process Approach to College Essays," now in its second edition."
