Paulo F. Ribeiro received his B.S.E.E. from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Manchester, Manchester, England, in 1985. He was a Research Fellow with the NASA Glenn Research Centers, Cleveland, OH, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), USA, and Erskine Fellow with the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and with the Brazilian Institute of Electric Energy (INERGE), Brazil. He taught full-time and worked in the industry in the USA for over 24 years. He also taught at the Technological University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands. He spent 8 years as a transmission system planning engineer in Brazil. He is currently a full professor of electrical engineering with the Federal University of Itajubá. He has authored or co-authored more than 350 papers, book chapters, and 5 books. His current research interests include power electronics, and power quality, transmission and distribution systems, renewable and distributed generation, energy storage, smart grids, engineering education, and philosophy of technology. Dr Ribeiro is a fellow of IEEE and IET. Rafael S. Salles received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Itajubá, Itajubá, Brazil, in 2021. He is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in electric power engineering with the Electric Power Engineering Group, Luleå University of Technology, Skellefteå, Sweden. His research interests are power quality, energy storage, and smart grids. His primary focus on research has been on power system harmonics, waveform distortion assessment, railway electrification, and power quality in general. He is an active member of IEEE and CIGRE. Currently, he is a CIGRE Next Generation Network (NGN) representative for the Brazilian C4 (Committee of Power System technical performance). He has dedicated time and efforts to promoting good research, also performing publications of book chapters, journal papers, conference papers, and technical reports.
