V. Alaric Sample is president of the Pinchot Institute for Conservation in Washington, DC, and a fellow of the Society of American Foresters. He is author of numerous research papers, articles, and books on topics in national and international forest policy. R. Patrick Bixler is a research fellow with the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service in the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin, and a senior fellow at the Pinchot Institute for Conservation. His work focuses on the intersection of ecology, economy, and governance in both large intact landscapes and urban contexts. He has published research on issues of land and water management, biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, residential development, and urban resilience. Char Miller is the W. M. Keck Professor of Environmental Analysis at Pomona College. He is the author, coauthor, or coeditor of twenty-nine books and a regular contributor of essays, commentary, and reviews to professional journals, newspapers, and online media.
