He is the author of God's Caress: The Psychology of Puritan Religious Experience. Paul S. Boyer is Merle Curti Professor of History Emeritus and former director of the Institute for Research in the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. His many books include Purity in Print: Book Censorship in America from the Gilded Age to the Computer Age, also available from the University of Wisconsin Press.
