Norman J. Unrau is professor emeritus of education in the Charter College of Education at California State University, Los Angeles, where he continues to teach in the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, preparing teachers for service in urban middle and secondary schools. Prior to completing his doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Unrau taught high school for 25 years, during which time he created and applied many of the perspectives and strategies he now presents in Thoughtful Teachers, Thoughtful Learners. Among other books by Norman Unrau is Content Area Reading and Writing, published in 2004, while in the same year he co-edited the fifth edition of Theoretical Models and Processes of Reading. He has served as editor of the International Reading Association's Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and has written, edited and published articles on literacy education and research in numerous journals. As well as his teaching and writing, he remains a popular speaker at international educational conferences. Norman lives in Manhattan Beach, California.
