Nora Nadjarian Author

Nora Nadjarian was born in Limassol, Cyprus. She has published three collections of poetry, and has been awarded prizes in various international competitions, including the Scottish International Open Poetry Competition (2000 and 2003), the Plough Arts Centre Poetry Competition (2003), Poetry on the Lake (2005) and the Feile Filiochta Poetry Competition (2005). Her second poetry collection Cleft in Twain was one of the books from Cyprus recommended in an article in The Guardian on the literature of the new member states of the European Union (1st May 2004). Her work was also included in May Day: Young Literature from the Ten New Member States of the European Union (published by the European Commission). Shorter versions of 'Ledra Street' and 'No-Man's-Land' were Highly Commended in the Commonwealth Short Story Competition in 2001 and 2005 respectively. 'Spoon Sweet' was Highly Commended in the same competition in 2002. Extracts from 'Ledra Street' were used in a documentary on Cyprus by Austrian Television ORF/3sat. The programme was part of the series CONNECT EUROPAA" and was broadcast in Europe in December 2001.
