Dr. Alaa El Din Mahmoud is an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Sciences Department, Faculty of Science at Alexandria University and the co-leader of the Green Technology Lab. Dr. Mahmoud is also the Vice-Chair of the National Committee of the UNESCO-MAB (Man and Biosphere) program in Egypt and a member of the alumni professional development unit in the Faculty of Science. He received his bachelor's and master’s degrees from Alexandria University in Egypt and his Ph.D. degree from Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Germany in 2019. His research focuses on interdisciplinary environmental issues which are related to sustainability, conservation of natural resources, water/wastewater treatment, and green nanotechnology. Dr. Mahmoud participated in many national and international workshops and conferences as a presenter, a session chair, and a member of the technical committee. He published international peer-reviewed publications with more than 30 scientific articles and conference papers as well as 15 book chapters. Moreover, he is involved in many collaborative funded research projects as a principal investigator, a consultant, and a team member. Currently, he is invited as a young editorial board member in the Biochar journal and Carbon Research journal. Among his current activities, Dr. Mahmoud is a reviewer for several prestigious journals in Elsevier, Springer, RSC society, and MDPI.
In 2022, Dr. Mahmoud was named the "Sustainable Development Ambassador" (top-achiever) for the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development as well as a certified trainer. He has been awarded the Best Young Researcher Award for his scientific contribution from the International Research and Academic Awards of the RanBal Research Institute & Bentham Science. Furthermore, he was awarded the Fulbright award 2021, "German Academic Exchange Service; DAAD Award" for conference and lecture travel abroad in two consecutive years 2018 – 2019, the American Chemical Society Award for Environmental Chemistry Division in 2018, Misr El Kheir Foundation award for postgraduates in 2014, the "Young Scientists Award" from UNESCO-MAB program in 2013. He was recognized by the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University during the Day of Excellence for scientific contributions in "Teaching & Research". During his career, he received fellowship awards from Temple University (2022), University of Texas at Austin (2021), Shanghai University (2019), University of Luxembourg (2018), TU Berlin Campus El Gouna, Egypt (2015).
Prof. Manal Fawzy is one of the founders of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science - Alexandria University, where she is currently acting as a full Professor. She is the team leader of Green Technology Lab., Chair of the Egyptian National Man & Biosphere Commission to UNESCO and member of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Commission on Education and Communication (CEC). Prof. Fawzy has obtained her PhD in Plant Biosystematics from Alexandria University in conjunction with the Biosystematics Research Centre, Ottawa, Agriculture Canada in 1991. Afterward, she has dedicated her research to conservation of natural resources, the use of indigenous plant species for the remediation of polluted environments and recently in the phytosynthesis of nanomaterials for environmental applications. Prof. Fawzy has awarded UNESCO Young Scientist Award (1991), Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation (1997), University Of Alexandria Prize of Scientific Distinction (2016) and Alexandria University Prize for Recognition (2019). Prof. Fawzy has implemented and participated in many research projects in the field of restoration of degraded ecosystems, biodiversity conservation and green biotechnology She is also undertaken environmental consultations for some national, regional and international authorities or organizations in the fields of biodiversity monitoring, and environmental impact assessment. Prof. Fawzy is a reviewer and referee for many internationally sound scientific journals. Prof. Fawzy published 60 scientific articles and 9 book chapters in peer reviewed journals, national and international conferences.
Nadeem Ahmad Khan has been an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Mewat Engineering College (WAQF), Nuh (Haryana), India since 2012. Presently he is pursuing his PhD. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His recent accomplishments include the Best Young Scientist Award by LWT India and GECL for Scientific contribution in the field of Environmental Engineering. He is also External Examiner and Paper-setter at Integral University, Lucknow, and Dehradun Technical University since 2013. Has got his M. TECH. (Civil Engineering) in 2011 with Honors in Environmental Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University. Mr. Khan was associated with the Ministry of Environment and Forest for two years as Junior Research Fellow (J.R.F) in 2009-11 and also worked with UNICEF as a Research Assistant (R.A) on the topic of GIS mapping and Water quality parameter estimation. He has published 03 Books with International Publishers, 55 papers in SCI, and 15 in National journals in the fields of civil engineering and water treatment.
