Mohammadreza Aghaei Editor

Mohammadreza Aghaei is a senior researcher and lecturer in the field of renewables, photovoltaics, enabling technologies and energy system. He was the chair of the working group 2: reliability and durability of PV in EU COST Action PEARL PV. Dr. Aghaei is an IEEE senior member and is the co-leader of an EU H2020 funded project “COLLECTiEF”. He has a very strong international profile and research experience of over 10 years on renewable energy systems. He was involved in several national and EU-funded research projects dealing with photovoltaics, energy systems, smart and autonomous technology. He has authored numerous publications in internationally peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings. Mainly his research interests include energy transition, renewable energy, energy systems, solar energy, photovoltaics, autonomous monitoring, and enabling technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twin (DT) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). Dr Moazami is a pioneering researcher in smart buildings and energy flexibility and application of distributed intelligence (Swarm Intelligence, Collective Intelligence, Multi-Agent systems) for energy management. He was appointed as associate professor and as the head of the Energy Management and Efficiency Research Group (EMERGE). He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ocean Operations and Civil Engineering at NTNU. He has strong experience in building performance simulation, energy flexibility, climate robustness and resilience in buildings, occupant behaviour, etc. He is the coordinator of COLLECTiEF project and was actively involved in several national and international projects. In 2019, he has been awarded an innovation grant (innovasjonsstipend 2019) for the proposal “A simulation-based tool for development of Collective Intelligence (CI) at urban scale to mitigate the impacts of extreme climate conditions”, focusing on developing a new solution for increasing the energy demand flexibility of urban areas Gabriele Lobaccaro is an Associate Professor in Solar Design and Building Performance Simulation at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on solar design and environmental analysis, energy and building technology, and sustainable and resilient built environments. Professor Umit Cali is a distinguished technology researcher with over 20 years of global experience in IT law, energy systems, blockchain, and data science. His career includes impactful roles such as network engineer at IBM International, senior researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute, and CTO for KREEN Renewables GmbH. Currently, he is a professor and chair in Digital Engineering at the University of York and a professor of Energy Informatics at NTNU part-time. Umit pioneered merging technology with social systems, notably in artificial intelligence, digital privacy, cyber law, and blockchain. He led IEEE groups on these fronts and founded startups in the US and Switzerland focused on digital solutions for the energy sector. He holds three patents, has authored books on digital energy sector transformation, and is enhancing his expertise with an LL.M. in Digital Law at the University of Göttingen, expected by May 2024. His journey began with an Electrical Engineering degree from Yildiz Technical University and a Ph.D. from the University of Kassel in Germany.
