Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Michael Milde started his career in law in 1955 when he graduated from Charles University with a masters degree and commenced working as associate professor of private international law, comparative law and commercial law in the same university. His academic record spans no less than three earned doctorates in law and various other legal qualifications. Dr. Milde has published numerous books, the most recent of which is International Air Carrier Liability: The Montreal Convention of 1999, coauthored with Dr. Paul Stephen Dempsey, Director of the Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University. He has also published many leading articles in international law journals and has presented papers at conferences in all parts of the world. During his tenure as Director of the Institute of Air and Space Law, ICAO awarded the Institute the prestigious Edward Warner Award, which is the highest public acknowledgment of contribution to international civil aviation. From 1989 to 2002, Dr. Milde was Editor in Chief of the Annals of Air and Space Law published by McGill University. He is also on the editorial board of many leading international law journals. In recognition of his many contributions to the Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University conferred the title Director Emeritus on him in 2006.
