Meva Singh Dhesi came to the UK at the age of 13 with his mother, brother, and two sisters. After he was in a car accident in 1980, he became an amputee at just 25. Thanks to Waheguru ji (God) for giving him the willpower and motivation to overcome the limitations of his disability, he has not let anything get in the way of his love of badminton or his family. Despite his acquired disability, he continues to be an active member of his able-bodied badminton club Barnet Social Community Association (BSCA). He is the only Sikh amputee in the UK to have competed in para-badminton tournaments at local, national, and international levels as both a standing player and a wheelchair player. Meva lives in Totteridge, North London, with his wife.
