Martin Stephen Author

Martin Stephen is only the second man in history to have occupied both High Master posts in UK public schools - at The Manchester Grammar School and St Paul's School, London. Starting his career teaching in remand homes, he was also Headmaster of The Perse School, Cambridge. He and his wife Jenny were the first married couple ever both to be Heads of schools in membership of HMC (the Headmasters' and Headmistress's Conference), and at one stage could claim between them to have been Head of five schools in the top thirty of the A-level league tables. Martin was elected as Chairman of the HMC in 2004, despite being described as a'dangerous maverick' at his first meeting. He is the author of twenty-one books on literature, military history and education, including the classic First World War poetry anthology Never Such Innocence, five novels in the 'Henry Gresham' series of historical crime thrillers, and the acclaimed Educatingthe More Able Student (with Ian Warwick, 2015). He is a founder-Governor of The London Academy of Excellence.
