Nigel Lane is a Consultant in Acute Medicine. He graduated from the University of Bristol and has worked mainly in the UK since then. He passed the Acute Medicine SCE exam in 2012. He realised throughout his revision for this important and expensive exam that there was no one source of reference for revision. He decided that future trainees would benefit from a revision textbook and the idea for this book was born. Nigel has a wealth of experience in teaching acute medicine to junior colleagues as well as more formally on the IMPACT and ALS courses. As a junior doctor he assisted commercial organisations in developing revision material for the MRCP exam. He has also been an examiner for medical students at the University of Bristol. This experience has enabled him to edit this first purpose written text for the Acute Medicine SCE. Louise Powter is a consultant in Acute Medicine at North Bristol NHS Trust. She qualified from Bristol university in 2001 and after house jobs and senior house officer rotations, entered specialist training in Acute Medicine in 2007. She took and passed the Acute Medicine SCE in 2011. The lack of appropriate revision material led her to team up with Nigel Lane to write this book. She gained her CCT in Acute and General Medicine in 2013. She has a particular interest in intensive Care Medicine and point of care ultrasound. Samir Patel has been a Consultant in Acute Medicine and Rheumatology at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) since 2001. As part of his role he developed one of the first Ambulatory Care services in 2002, and has subsequently led the successful expansion of the Acute Medicine team which now provides a consultant led service 7 days a week at NBT. As a Consultant Rheumatologist he has specialty interests in Connective Tissue Disease, Vasculitis and Behcet's Syndrome. He has been the Training Programme Director (TPD) for General Medicine in the Severn Deanery since 2008, and was the TPD for Acute Medicine between 2008-13. He held the post of Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Bristol between 2001-2012. He has been the Clinical Director for Medicine at NBT since 2011.
