Louis de Wet Author

Louis de Wet (1930–2018) was an artistphilosopher born in South Africa, who studied in Paris before moving to London. He created a body of meticulously crafted drawings and paintings, using Old Master techniques to express a contemporary world. In 1983, along with his wife, he bought Wenlock Abbey, which he spent thirtyfive years restoring. Gabrielle Drake is a British actress. She married Louis de Wet in 1977. Along with Cally Callomon, Drake produced the film In the Gaze of Medusa (2013) by Gavin Bush, which documented de Wet’s renovation of Wenlock Abbey. She is Chair of the Louis de Wet Foundation, established to preserve the abbey and offer cultural opportunities. Cally Callomon runs Bryter Music, the estate of the musician Nick Drake (1948–74) and his mother, Molly Drake. Along with Gabrielle Drake, Callomon produced the film In the Gaze of Medusa (2013) by Gavin Bush, which documented the renovation of Wenlock Abbey by Louis de Wet and his wife, Gabrielle Drake. Vivien Bellamy is an architectural historian, who was previously Head of Shrewsbury Museums. Her books include A History of Much Wenlock (2018) and The Making of Shrewsbury: The History of a Border Town (2004).
