Dr Leigh Hoath is a Senior Professional Practice Fellow at Leeds Trinity University. She has worked in higher education since 2006 following a successful teaching career and leads science education at the University across the primary and secondary age phases as well as holding a wider role developing CPD and Knowledge Exchange. Leigh’s own studies focused on teaching in the outdoor setting which stemmed from her interests in enhancement activities such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and longer expeditions around the world with pupils. Leigh is the education consultant to the world’s largest chemical business (BASF) where she develops their outreach provision as well as for the BBC on their Blue Planet Live BBCTeach resources and their latest ‘green curriculum’ and sustainability campaigns. She is an active member of the Association for Science Education on a regional and national level and, as well as being a trustee, sits on their Education Group and was awarded Chartered Science Teacher Status (CSciTeach) in 2009. Leigh is a regular author of science education articles, book chapters and national and international conference presenter. Matthew Livesey is a teacher of biology at Bradford Grammar School. Alongside his main teaching role, Matthew is part of the teaching and learning team, leading CPD and pedagogy development within the department and more widely across the school. Matthew has mentored several student teachers on both their first and second placement of training. He is a former medical doctor and a keen outdoor enthusiast and regularly draws upon his experiences to contextualise learning. Matthew sits on the 11-19 Committee for the Association for Science Education, their Publications Group and the Yorkshire regional Committee and is a frequent presenter at their conferences, focusing on supporting student teachers and early career teachers in their first years of teaching.
