He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from National University of Singapore. He has more than 8 years of related research experience in biomass energy engineering and waste management. His research involves enhanced anaerobic digestion of organic wastes (e.g. food waste, horticultural waste, animal manure, excess sludge, and algal residues) for biofuel and biochemicals production, optimization of various anaerobic digesters with organic wastes, and bioinformatic analysis of microbial community structures. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers and 3 authorized patents in the fields of bioenergy and waste management. His works have been published in Bioresource Technology, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Chemical Engineering Journal, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy Conversion and Management, and Waste Management, etc. Some of his works were selected as “Editor’s Choice Paper, “Most Downloaded Paper and “Highly Cited Paper. Dr. Zhang is the recipient of Best Lab Demonstrator in Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at NUS (2019), Shanghai Excellent Graduates (2015), Chinese National Scholarship for Graduate Students (2014) and an industrial award from Suzhou Industrial Park (2014). He has conducted academic exchanges in more than 10 international conferences held in Spain, Greece, and Singapore, etc. He is also a Conference Organizing Committee Member in Japan (Tokyo)-SCON World Convention on Waste Recycling and Reuse, a member of Singapore BioEnergy Association, and a manuscript reviewer for over 15 international journals. Dr Yen Wah Tong has been in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NUS since 2001, with research in biomimicry of living systems for medical and environmental applications. From 2012, he has been the co-Programme Director of E2S2-CREATE, a major international research programme with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, funded by the National Research Foundation, studying waste management in megacities. He has developed a compact anaerobic digestion technology for treating food waste on site, with a spin-off company started in 2018. He has more than 160 international publications, 200 international conference presentations and five patents. Dr. Jingxin Zhang is currently associate professor in China-UK Low Carbon College at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. He obtained his PhD degree in Environmental Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2013. From 2014 to 2018, he has been a research fellow at Environmental Research Institute in National University of Singapore, studying anaerobic digestion of food waste. His research interest involves anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy systems, waste-to-resource technologies, food waste management, and industrial wastewater treatment and pollution control. He has presided over the Research and Development of the National Key Project, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Shanghai Science and Technology Talent Planning. Dr. Zhang has participated in several international scientific and technological cooperation projects to carry out cooperative research with domestic and foreign enterprises such as Institute of Urban Environment of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Enlightenment Environmental Technology Development Co., LTD., E2S2 Systems Co., LTD., Singapore CBE Eco-Solutions Co., LTD., National Engineering Center for Nanotechnology and Application. Dr. Zhang has over 40 peer-reviewed papers with h index of 23 and >1337 citations (Goggle scholar) and 4 patents in the field of anaerobic digestion for biofuel and biochemicals production. In the past 6 years, he joined in the CREATE Program, an international cooperation program between SJTU and National University of Singapore and studied decentralized waste-to-energy technologies and energy systems to handle food waste and other organic wastes. He has built an operational mobile food waste treatment system based on anaerobic digestion. Based on this program, he has been designated as the Co-PI of ES-1 in CREATE program to develop novel AD technologies and systems. He has been selected into Shanghai Pujiang Talent Plan in 2019 and Liaoning Province's Excellent Doctoral dissertation (2016).
