Khaldoun Samman, Associate Professor of Sociology at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, is the author of Cities of God and Nationalism: Mecca, Jerusalem, and Rome as Contested World Cities (Paradigm 2007) and co-editor of Islam and the Orientalist World-System (Paradigm 2008). Mazhar Al-Zo'by is Professor of global studies and world humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences at Zayed University (UAE). His interests both as an academic and a public scholar focus on globalization, postcolonial studies, and critical social theory. His current research addresses the question of cultural identity, social movements (primarily in the Arab world), and popular culture in the global context.
