Kazimierz Patalas was an active member of the Polish Underground during World War II. Before immigrating to Canada in 1967, he was Professor of Hydrobiology at the Freshwater Institute in Olsztyn, Poland. He continued his research at the Freshwater Institute in Winnipeg, Canada, where he worked as a research scientist for 25 years. Zbigniew Izydorczyk is a Professor of English at the University of Winnipeg, Canada. A mediaevalist and an historian of literature, he is also active as a translator from Polish, Latin, and French. Daniel Stone teaches Polish and East European history at the University of Winnipeg, Canada. He is author of The Polish-Lithuanian State, 1386-1795 .
