Lama Karma Thinley Rinpoche, born in 1931, is an important master of the Sakya and Kagyu traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Over the last fifty years Rinpoche has founded centres and taught extensively in Canada, the USA, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. He has hundreds of devoted students, both Tibetan and Western, and is also highly regarded as a poet and artist. Rinpoche divides his time between his monastery Tegchen Legshay Ling in Boudhanath, Nepal and Toronto, Canada. Lama Jampa Thaye recounts the traditional education that he has received over his lifetime from his Tibetan masters – principally H.H. Sakya Gongma Trichen and Karma Thinley Rinpoche, but also from many other masters such as H.H. Karmapa. He recounts the vows that he has received and maintained, the textual teachings that he has received, the Vajrayana initiations obtained and the meditations that he has practised.
