Kambiz Vafai holds a B.Sc (highest honors) in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA, and an M.Sc and Ph.D in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Widely published and highly decorated, he currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside, USA, where he started as the Presidential Chair. Before joining the University of California, Dr. Vafai was with The Ohio State University, Columbus, USA, where he won outstanding research awards in assistant, associate, and full professor categories. He is the fellow of several societies, has graduated numerous Ph.D and M.Sc students, and has supervised many post docs and visiting scholars. Dr. Vafai is the recipient of the ASME Classic Paper Award and the ASME Memorial Award, which are amongst the most prestigious awards in the field of heat transfer. He was given the International Society of Porous Media (InterPore) Highest Award, is the recipient of the 75th Anniversary Medal of the ASME Heat Transfer Division, and holds 12 US patents associated with electronic cooling and medical applications. He is one of the highest cited in his fields of research, using both ISI (Highly Cited Category) and Google Scholar metrics. His research interests include transport through porous media, multiphase transport, aircraft brakes, biomedical applications, microcantilever-based biosensors, biofilms, electronic cooling, macromolecule transport through arteries, cooling enhancement investigations, modeling of tissue and organs, natural convection in complex configurations, analysis of porous insulations, heat flux applications, free surface flows, flat-shaped heat pipes, thermal design and modeling, and feasibility, optimization, and parametric studies for various engineering applications and power electronics.
