Dr. Basil Kuriachen is serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Calicut from 2020. His vivacity and dexterity towards abiding commitment to sublime work ethic conferred him with the Ph.D. and M. Tech degrees from NIT Calicut (2015) and Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam (2011), respectively. His resolute research niches are in the field of metal additive manufacturing, micro/nano-machining processes, precision and ultra-precision machining, modeling and analysis in the machining of “difficult to machine” materials, tribology of manufacturing processes, nano-tribology, surface coatings, nano-lubricants, advanced machining processes, friction stir welding & processing and surface characterization. He is the principal investigator (PI) for two currently active projects from DST-SERB and ARDB, DRDO, Govt. of India. Excellency in academics and research enabled him to be the recipient of several prestigious national awards inclusive of IEI Young Engineers Award 2019-20, SERB-International Travel Fellowship 2017, and Early Career Research Award of DST-SERB 2016. He has organized five GIAN programs (in collaboration with foreign faculties), and is the reviewer for several international peer-reviewed journals of repute associated with various publishing houses such as ASME, Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, etc. He has to his credit, 86 research publications in international refereed journals and conferences alongside two filed patents. Presently, he is guiding 6 Ph. D scholars (One thesis submitted) for carrying out research works in the distinct fields of electrical discharge machining assisted alloying, friction stir welding & processing, laser surface texturing and so on. He has organized many national and state level programs such as conferences (1), short term courses (3), and state level seminars (4) and has participated in 17 short term courses in his career so far.
Prof. (Dr) Jose Mathew is Professor (HAG) & HOD (ME) and Ex-Dean (R&C) of the National Institute of Technology Calicut, Kerala. He received his M. Tech and PhD from IIT Kanpur (1990) and IIT Bombay (1999) respectively. His interests are micro and nano-machining process, precision and ultra-precision machining, modelling and analysis of machining of ‘difficult to machine’ materials, etc. He has published more than 125 research papers in international journals and international conferences. Several M. Tech and PhD theses have been completed under his guidance. He also has worked on a number of industry sponsored research and development projects. He was awarded with Best all-round performance award among NITC faculty during 2005-06 [Instituted by NIT Calicut and was the first award winner], ISTE- Certificate of Achievement 2008 National award (First Prize) for having guided the Best M.Tech. Thesis in Mechanical Engineering for the thesis titled "Theoretical and Experimental Investigations on Mechanical Micro Machining (M3)" submitted by Sooraj V.S., ISTE - Certificate of Achievement 2012 National award (First Prize) for having guided the Best M.Tech. Thesis in Mechanical Engineering for the thesis titled “Multi-Objective Optimization of Process Parameters in Micro drilling Using Vibration Assisted Micro EDM” submitted by Deepak G. Dilip, and DST International Travel Support (full amount) Scheme award for attending ASME International Conference at Chicago, USA during November 2012. Also, he has developed many state of the art research facilities such as DST-FIST sponsored Centre for Precision Measurements and Nanomechanical Testing, Micromachining Centre, Additive Manufacturing Centre, CNC Centre, Sophisticated Instruments Centre, and CAD/CAM Centre, etc.
Prof. (Dr.) Uday Shanker Dixit received B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from erstwhile University of Roorkee (now Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee) in 1987, M.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 1993, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1998. He has worked in two industries— HMT, Pinjore and INDOMAG Steel Technology, New Delhi, where his main responsibility was designing various machines. Dr. Dixit joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in 1998, where he is currently a professor. He was also the Officiating Director of Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar from February 2014 to May 2015. Dr. Dixit is actively engaged in research in various areas of design and manufacturing since last 33 years. He has authored/co-authored about 125 journal papers, about 115 conference papers, 31 book chapters and 7 books in mechanical engineering. He has also co-edited 8 books related to manufacturing. Out of these 15 books, two have been published by CRC press. He has guest-edited 11 special issues of journals. Presently he is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Institution of Engineers (India), Series C and Regional Editor Asia of International Journal of Mechatronics and Manufacturing Systems. He has guided 14 doctoral and 44 masters’ students. Dr. Dixit has investigated a number of sponsored projects and developed several courses. Presently, he is the vice-president of AIMTDR conference.
