St. Innocent of Alaska (born John Veniaminov) was the Bishop of Kamchatka and Kuril Islands in Russia and the Aleutian Islands in Russian America. A scholar and a linguist, he wrote about the native peoples' customs and dialects and published dictionaries, parts of the Bible, religious teaching material, and liturgical books in their native languages.
