Jógvan Isaksen (born 1950) is a leading writer of contemporary Faroese crime fiction. This novel like many others features the dogged amateur detective Hannis Martinsson, who persists in his investigations when wiser counsel might often suggest a tactical retreat. The conflicts are played out against the wild and beautiful, but harsh and unforgiving backdrop of the Faroe Islands, a remote community used to relying on its own resources and solving its own dilemmas. Norvik Press has previously published the earlier novel Walpurgis Tide (Krossmessa, 2005). The recent TV drama series TROM was based on the Martinsson novels.
