Joanne Mulligan is a Professor of Education in the School of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney. Her background is in primary school teaching and research in early mathematics learning.

Michael Mitchelmore is an Honorary Fellow in the School of Education, Faculty of Human Sciences, Macquarie University, Sydney. His background is in secondary mathematics teaching and research in spatial learning.

Over the past 20 years, Joanne and Michael have collaborated in a large number of research projects and publications, including ACER’s Pattern and Structure Assessment (PASA).
