Joan Stephens Author

Keith Parramore and Joan Stephens are a husband-and-wife team of mathematicians. Joan began her career as a systems programmer in an industrial context and Keith as an operational research scientist in industry and in banking. They soon moved into teaching. Joan worked in comprehensive schools and then as head of mathematics in a mixed voluntary-aided school. Keith started in an independent boys' school and went on to become head of mathematics and deputy headteacher of a large mixed comprehensive school. Keith was later a mathematics lecturer at the University of Brighton, while Joan was a lecturer in mathematics, statistics and mathematics education at the University of Chichester. In retirement from their university posts, they have spent 30 years between them as visiting tutors to trainee teachers. Lessons Learned from Maths Lessons relates mostly to their time spent supporting trainee teachers of mathematics.
