Howard McKinley Corning, a poet and historian, was poetry editor of the Oregonian from 1965 to 1976. His work as an editor and supervisor with the Oregon Writer's Project of the Works Progress Administration resulted in the development of two important regional books, A Dictionary of Oregon History and Willamette Landings.
