Henry Adams, grandson of John Adams and greatgrandson of John Quincy Adams, was born in Boston on February 16, 1838. He died in Washington, D.C., on March 27, 1918. While his most famous work was History of the United States of America during the Administrations of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, he is also known and respected for The Education of Henry Adams. Robert H. Ferrell is Professor Emeritus of History at Indiana University. He is the author or editor of numerous books, including Collapse at Meuse-Argonne: The Failure of the Missouri-Kansas Division; Harry S. Truman: A Life; and The Dying President: Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1944-1945, all available from the University of Missouri Press. Ferrell resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
