Gerald Abraham was well-known as a teacher, editor and writer on musical and literary subjects. He was a professor of music in Liverpool University, editor of Monthly Musical Record, and, President of the International Society for Music Education. He was general editor of "The History of Music in Sound," Secretary to the Editorial Board of the New Oxford History of Music, and author of many books, both technical and general in nature.
