Richard Jacquemond is professor of Modern Arabic language and literature at Aix-Marseille Universite, and a researcher with IREMAM (Institut de Recherche et d'Etudes sur les Mondes Arabes et Musulmans, CNRS, Aix-en-Provence). A graduate in Law and Arabic studies, he lived in Cairo for some fifteen years, working as a programme officer at the French cultural mission in Egypt before writing his Ph.D. thesis on the Egyptian literary field from the 1960s to the 1990s. A member of the editorial board of Alif, Journal of Comparative Poetics (Cairo), The Translator (Routledge) and Arabica (Brill), he has published more than forty articles and edited several books and journal issues on modern Arabic literature in French, English and Arabic. He has also produced twenty French translations of works by modern Arab authors, among them eight novels by leading Egyptian writer Sonallah Ibrahim. Felix Lang is a postdoctoral research fellow in the department of Arabic Literature and Culture at the University of Marburg. He Studied Arabic and Social Anthropology at the University of St. Andrews and completed a Ph.D. in Arabic Literature and Culture at the University of Marburg.
