Emilio Gentile teaches Modern History at the University of Rome La Sapienza, and is a historian of international reputation. He is the author of twenty books, and his major works and articles have been translated into English, French, and Spanish. He is the author of Politics as Religion, The Sacralization of Politics in Fascist Italy, and The Struggle for Modernity Nationalism, Futurism, and Fascism. He is Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Rome and has been a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Hans Sigrist Prize by the University of Bern, Switzerland, for his studies on the sacralization of politics.
