Douglas Barnett is Chief of Staff for the Vice Provost and Director, University of Texas Libraries. He previously served as Associate Director for Research and Information Services with the Texas State Historical Association. During that period he served as managing editor for the New Handbook of Texas, a six-volume encyclopedia of Texas history, and for its online version which was developed in collaboration with the University of Texas Libraries. Most recently, he served as project director for the Association’s Texas history portal project – the Digital Gateway to Texas History. Fred M. Heath is Vice Provost and Director, The University of Texas Libraries, University of Texas at Austin. He previously served as Dean of Libraries at Texas A&M University and as Library Director of Texas Christian University during his twenty year tenure in Texas. He has served as President of the ARL Board of Directors and the Virginia Library Association, and as Chair of the Texas Council of State University Librarians and the Big 12+ Library Consortium (now GWLA). He has served recently on the advisory boards of SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), CNI (Coalition for Networked Information), and the Center for Research Libraries (CRL). He has served in an editorial capacity for Library Quarterly, Libraries and the Cultural Record, Journal of Library Administration, Library Administration and Management (LA&M), and College and Research Library News. He is a co-developer of the library assessment protocol, LibQUAL+, and is a contributor to several monographs and author of numerous journal articles.
