Deborah R. McFarlane is Professor and Regents Lecturer at the University of New Mexico.She has also been a faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the University of Oklahoma College of Public Health, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Dr. McFarlane has published widely in population and reproductive health policy, including The Politics of Fertility Control (2001). She led the effort to establish the Population and Reproductive Health Oral History Project funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and archived at the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College.She holds an MPH from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan, an MPA from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a doctorate in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She serves on the Publications Board of the American Public Health Association, the History Committee of the Population Association of America, was chair of APHA’s Population, Reproductive and Sexual Health Section, and was a board member of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association and Planned Parenthood of New Mexico. She has consulted for numerous global and domestic agencies working in the population and reproductive health field.
