The late J. H. Easterby (1898-1960) taught history at the College of Charleston. He served as the director of the South Carolina Department of Archives and History from 1949 until 1960. Daniel C. Littlefield received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Johns Hopkins University. A Carolina Professor of History at the University of South Carolina, Littlefield previously taught at several other institutions, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Louisiana State University. The author of Revolutionary Citizens: African Americans, 1776-1804 and Rice and Slaves: Ethnicity and the Slave Trade in Colonial South Carolina, Littlefield resides in Columbia.
