Michael Day completed his doctorate degree at Stanford University and has taught middle and high-school art in California. A widely published author and researcher, Dr. Day is a recipient of the Manuel Barkan Award for published research from NAEA. He has served on national panels, editorial boards for national scholarly publications, and art museum boards. He was invited to the former Soviet Union in a scholarly exchange sponsored by the International Research and Exchanges Board, and in 1998 he was one of five scholars invited to Beijing in a delegation sponsored by the Getty Education Institute and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. Dr. Day served as President of the NAEA from 1997 to 1999. Al Hurwitz has taught at the elementary and secondary levels in Miami-Dade County, Florida. He was the Director of Visual and Performing Arts for Newton, Massachusetts schools and taught art education at Harvard University Graduate School of Education Ohio State University, Teacher's College, Columbia University, Brandeis University, and the Massachusetts College of Art. He has written, co-authored, or edited 12 books on art education and served on the United States Society for Education through Art (USSEA). He has also served on the planning committee of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
