Mountain agriculture cover

This publication focuses on the challenges, opportunities and solutions for sustainable mountain agriculture development to achieve Zero Hunger in Asia. Based on available evidence, it analyses how mountain agriculture could contribute to satisfying all four dimensions of food security by making food systems nutrition-sensitive, climate-resilient, economically viable and locally adaptable. In addition, eight Asian country case studies identify context-specific challenges relating to biophysical-technical, policy, socio-economic and institutional dimensions. According to this publication, it is important to prioritize specialty mountain product identification, production, processing, marketing and consumption in order to effectively demonstrate the contributions of mountain agriculture towards Zero Hunger and poverty reduction. The book draws from the International Workshop and Regional Expert Consultation on Mountain Agriculture Development and Food Security and Nutrition Governance, held by FAO and the University of International Relations in November 2018 in Beijing.
