The first scholarly monograph in English devoted to Lucio Fontana's sculptural production, this richly illustrated volume charts the uncategorizable artist's exploration of sculpture from the 1920s until his death in 1968.
Lucio Fontana: Sculpture considers bodies of work from different periods together, highlighting continuity and evolution in his oeuvre. Edited by Luca Massimo Barbero in collaboration with the Fondazione Lucio Fontana, this richly illustrated volume allows readers to discover Fontana’s rarely seen sculptural works, exhibited at Hauser & Wirth New York, 69th Street from November 2022 until February 2023.
Fontana's fast-working hands left the stage to artisans' slow-worked surfaces and mechanical means that, by excessive polishing, eliminated any trace of the process, displaying a clean and pristine surface. Fontana cut his hands, but the sensuous remains on the surface, whether touched or untouched by them.--Choghakate Kazarian "Brooklyn Rail"
