Schloss und Park Altenstein

Altenstein Castle is one of the outstanding structures of historicist architecture in Germany, which served as a summer residence for the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen until 1918. In addition, one of the most important landscape gardens in Germany was created here by skilfully incorporating natural features. The Altenstein-Liebenstein cultivated landscape, which extends far beyond the immediate park and spa facilities, was developed by means of sophisticated garden and architectural design and the interweaving of park and natural landscape areas.
