Software Architecture

This volume presents the proceedings from the 14th International Conference on Software Architecture, featuring selected research papers and keynote talks, focusing on various topics including microservices and performance engineering.

Software Architecture presents the refereed proceedings from the 14th International Conference on Software Architecture, known as ECSA 2020, which took place in A’quila, Italy, in September 2020. This edition features a selection of research papers that highlight the latest advancements and discussions in the field of software architecture. From a pool of 103 submissions, 12 full papers and 5 short papers were meticulously reviewed and chosen for inclusion, demonstrating the high caliber of research being conducted.

The content is organized into several topical sections that cover a diverse range of subjects. These include microservices, uncertainty in systems, self-adaptive and open systems, model-based approaches, performance and security engineering, architectural smells, and source code analysis. Additionally, the book addresses education and training, along with experiences and insights gained from industrial case studies. A significant focus is also placed on architecting modern distributed systems, reflecting the evolving nature of software architecture in contemporary contexts.

In the Industrial Track, the proceedings include 11 submissions, of which 6 were accepted, providing a practical perspective on the application of software architecture concepts. The book also features three keynote talks, enriching the discourse with insights from leading experts in the field. Notably, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ECSA 2020 was conducted as a virtual event, adapting to the challenges posed by the global situation while still fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among participants.
