Galleys available: national mailing to key review/media outlets 4-5 months prior to publication. National advertising: Poets & Writers magazine, American Poets magazine, the Academy of American Poets newsletter, Rain Taxi, and Redactions. National print campaign: 100+ finished books will be mailed to key review outlets, specifically targeting Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, The LA Times, Poets & Writers Magazine, The Rumpus, Huffington Post Poetry, Bookforum, LA Review of Books, World Literature Today, Poetry International, etc. Buy-ins to relevant academic conferences, trade shows, and publications on Italian translation and World War II memoir studies. Our grant from the Lannan Foundation allows an additional $3-5k in funds for the promotion of the book. For course adoptions, will reach out to colleges/universities in US and Europe where there are Italian studies/language and language/literature/history departments with WWII memoir studies courses. Spring announcements will be submitted to Publishers Weekly. Online/social media campaign: Extensive promotion through BOA's website and blog; Facebook (6,500+ contacts), Twitter (6,100 followers), Instagram (1,500+ followers), and Pinterest (550+ followers) accounts; print and e-postcards; print and e-materials; and print and e-catalogs. Electronic postcards to announce book publication will be sent to author's and translators' academic contacts, bookstore contacts, and literary bloggers. Electronic newsletter feature will be emailed to BOA's database of 6,500+ contacts. Ebook will be available at the same time as print publication to maximize sales. Ebook ISBN will be included on all press materials, author and publisher websites, and whenever print ISBN is listed. Publisher and author will be promoting both e and p through social media. Both translators will attend the AWP Conference 2018 in Tampa, FL, where they will have a book signing. Translator Jeanne Foster is scheduled to teach a writing workshop at Book Passage in Corte Madera, CA in February 2017, and will be attending the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly in New Orleans, LA, in June 2017. She and translator Alan Williamson plan to coordinate other readings and events with the author, Bianca Tarozzi. The author and translators have strong connections in Boston, MA, Buffalo, NY, and Berkeley, CA, and Tuscany, Italy. After: you have packed the suitcase, shut off the gas, turned all the lights out, locked the window and the big outside door, when you lean against a wall, afraid of falling, and wait, expecting the vehicle, the means that will transport you far away, when the sky sails clear, blue, and annihilating above the overpass, and you have no past or future, in that empty moment poetry pitches its tent. Bianca Tarozzi was born in Bologna in 1941. Her father was a political prisoner under Mussolini, and then a Senator after the war. She received a degree from Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and taught English and American Literature for many years at the University of Verona. The recipient of numerous literary honors, she has translated into Italian the works of Elizabeth Bishop, Emily Dickinson, James Merrill, Richard Wilbur, A. E. Housman, Denise Levertov, and Louise Gluck. Also the author of many books of poetry, she began writing poems in 1947, and continues to this day. She currently splits her time between Venice and Milan, Italy.
