This book is dedicated to Pearl King who is something of an institution in herself within psychoanalysis as well as an important contributor to the development of the institution of psychoanalysis. She is the co-author with Riccardo Steiner of the monumental The Freud-Klein Controversies (1941-1945) detailing the "Controversial Discussions" of the British Psychoanalytical Society.
The wide-ranging collection of papers reflects the extent of Pearl King's work in the psychoanalytic field. She has contributed a great deal, both to the British and the international psychoanalytical community. As President of the British Psycho-Analytical Society, and Honorary Secretary for both the International Psychoanalytical Association and the British Psychoanalytical Society her work led her to organize the Archives of the British Society - an inspiration and model for many. Her own papers, soon to be published, were written while working as a practicing analyst, and are to do with development at different levels, within society and in individual analysis. The contributions of those who admire and value her as a colleague and friend variously address the complexities of the internal, the personal, the relational, and the social aspects of human life, which she specializes in and which enable her particular skills to potential change and development in all fields.Contributors: Ronald Baker; Bernard Barnett; Harold P.
