I never fail to be impressed by the imagination and creativity of children's pop-up books. I have fond memories of pop-up books from my own childhood which seemed to miraculously transport me to far away worlds, or show me the intricacies of how planes and machines worked.
My Pop-Up City Atlas by Jonathan Litton and Stephen Waterhouse has stirred those memories for me. Who wouldn't be inspired by a book which manages to include a pop-up Eiffel Tower!
This book manages to cram seventy different cities into its pages and a host of pop-up cityscapes, maps and fantastic facts hidden under flaps, and interactive pull tabs with secret illustrations.
We all loved looking at the 3D cities and talking about all the people who live in them. The Pop-Up New York is so intricate and detailed that you can really lose yourself in it. It was also lovely reminiscing about our trip to Venice with our children, and so clever that the pop up pages let you see the gondoliers under the bridges!
The atlas is as educational as it is fun to read, with lots of information and facts throughout its pages. It takes you on a round the world trip through historic and ultra-modern cities - explaining what its like to live in a coastal city or sleep in a honeycomb hotel in Tokyo.
Our children loved the interactive elements of this book. It's a lovely atlas to return to again and again and packed full of ideas to inspire our next travels.
