This debut play explores the challenges faced by South Asian Muslim men, focusing on community, identity, and the quest for representation through the lens of Jihad's documentary project in Blue Mist.

In Blue Mist, a debut play by Mohamed-Zain Dada, the narrative unfolds around the lives of South Asian Muslim men grappling with a society that often overlooks their experiences. Set against the backdrop of Chunkyz Shisha Lounge, a cherished gathering place for friends Jihad, Rashid, and Asif, the play emphasizes the significance of community and connection. This lounge serves as a sanctuary where laughter thrives, stories are shared, and dreams are nurtured, yet it faces an uncertain future as local politicians seek to undermine its existence.

Jihad, an aspiring journalist, emerges as the protagonist determined to defend his community's legacy. After winning a competition to create his own documentary, he embarks on a journey to amplify the voices of his peers and challenge the stereotypes that dominate mainstream media. The stakes are high as he navigates the complexities of his ambition, questioning whether he can produce a work that resonates with his friends while also confronting the potential personal costs of his aspirations.

Blue Mist premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London in October 2023, directed by Milli Bhatia in collaboration with SISTER. The play has been recognized for its impactful storytelling, winning Best Stage Production at the 2024 Asian Media Awards, highlighting its relevance and resonance within contemporary discussions about identity and representation.
