After narrowly escaping a Xenomorph attack and crash landing on the wrong planet, former military man Chris Temple just wants a peaceful life with his daughters. He just needs to deal with the brewing civil war and a Xenomorph on the loose. War will always find a man like you. This ALIEN story begins where most end: with a xenomorph loose on a damaged spaceship hurtling through space. Once a highly decorated marine, Chris Temple, a recently widowed single father to two young daughters, Jane, 11, and Emma, 8, is onboard. Despite his particular set of skills, Chris doesn't get involved in the fight with the alien, instead focusing on keeping his children safe as the ship comes in for a crash landing. The family land safely on an idyllic outpost planet, where Chris is told that the ship has been destroyed beyond recognition and nothing could have survived the crash. That's only the first lie. Chris and his daughters love their new life, but something doesn't feel right. Chris is a paranoid type, but just because he's paranoid, doesn't mean he's wrong. There are nasty surprises in store as Chris investigates the web of lies and conspiracies. After leaving a ruined Earth, it seems Chris and his daughters have crash-landed on a planet on the verge of all-out civil war. Chris will have to call on the battle skills he never wanted to use again in order to protect his daughters, deal with violence-hungry marines, and battle the xenomorph that's killing people regardless of which side of the civil war they're on.
Praise for The Ninth Circle "Imaginative, dark, and surreal, this is one coming of age tale that will haunt you long after you turn the last page." -Kristin Hannah, New York Times-bestselling author of FIREFLY LANE "Surgically precise, irresistible, tragically cool, and jacked up with the smart-talk and surly attitudes of high school culture, Brendan Deneen's modern fantasy THE NINTH CIRCLE grabs the reader with a grappling hook and doesn't let go until the final page. Echoes of Bradbury reverberate between the lines - the master would have loved this. Very creepy and highly recommended!" -Jay Bonansinga, New York Times Bestselling co-author of THE WALKING DEAD: THE FALL OF THE GOVERNOR "With the storytelling skills of a master, Brendan Deneen's THE NINTH CIRCLE summons the mythic yet very real tale of young Daniel, 16, and his escape from hell at home.to something magical and amazing. Filled with moments that will have readers imagining the circus of their dreams and nightmares, THE NINTH CIRCLE holds a big-top mirror up to 'Dante's Inferno'. As readers watch Daniel become involved with classic circus archetypes - a clown, the ringmaster, the acrobat and even, yes, the geek - we follow Daniel and this traveling troupe that, with each Canto, goes deeper into the dark secrets of this strange circus. As if channeling a modern era Nightmare Alley or even Tod Browning's Freaks, THE NINTH CIRCLE is compelling reading, both haunting and totally unforgettable." -Matthew Costello, author of RAGE and VACATION "A surreal and unsettling tour of hell through the eyes of a young man in the circus. THE NINTH CIRCLE is undeniably compelling, cant-look-away reading. Get this book now." -Nate Kenyon, award-winning author of DAY ONE and DIABLO: STORM OF LIGHT "THE NINTH CIRCLE is a vibrant and assured coming of age tale, full of the fantastical, strange and grotesque. If cool, dark circuses and compelling characters are your thing, this is the book for you." -Megan Chance, award-winning author of Bone River Praise for The Chrysalis "A brilliant and terrifying fever dream of a tale." - Jay Bonansinga "Slowly-mounting dread mixed with can't-stop-turning-the-pages fascination. Recalling modern horror classics like Rosemary's Baby." - Matthew Costello "Horror fans will love this dark, twisted, frightening story. If you loved The Amityville Horror or Heart Shaped Box, you'll love Brendan Deneen's The Chrysalis. Just keep the lights on while you read." - Kristin Hannah "Deneen's latest book catapults him to the front ranks of today's most exciting new genre writers. An old-school homage to genre classics, The Chrysalis uses themes of family responsibility and substance abuse, madness and artistic vision to create an unsettling mood that builds to a horrifying crescendo. This is a must-read." - Nate Kenyon "Creepy, powerful, wonderfully twisted." - Jonathan Maberry "Deneen wonderfully concentrates the anxiety and emotional strain of trying to live up to the responsibility that comes with a growing family. The problem here is, part of that family is growing behind the spare fridge in the cellar. Deneen hatches all the darkest fears of having 'one on the way." - Bracken MacLeod "Compelling." - David Moody "All the more frightening because ... Deneen makes you care before he starts the scares. A powerful, engrossing, and relentless book." - Chet Williamson
